Does a road become a highway=trunk by virtue of having one grade separation? I think not.

If you think that stretch is too short to warrant a change in classification, I would be fine with reverting it back to primary. I just felt that the higher classification is noticable as you drive down that road.

In general, I'd say the classification of a road is about its function - how the road is used, and that does not change over the course of one intersection.

My main rationale was that the highway=primary went up to meet Tuckahoe Road, while the route under serves as somewhat of a bypass. There are no properties that can be accessed from this bypass, and it feels like a more significant, limited-access road. I thought those differences would be good to show, which is why I made the bypass highway=trunk. But again, if we think it's too insignificant of a segment, we can switch it back.

I'd say for a segment of a road to merit a different classification from the rest it would need to have a signficant amount of people using just that section. To give a nearby example the Bronx River Parkway can be separated into the highway=motorway section (no traffic lights) south of the Sprain Brook merge and the highway=trunk section north of it because there are many users who will use only the southern section and will never see a traffic light. North of there, there are some users who will exit before the first traffic light at Leewood Drive, but the majority won't.

That's a fair point. Perhaps the difference in quality between the bypass and the intersecting part could be made with the `expressway=yes` tag? That is, the bypass could be marked with that tag, which I believe is appropriate.

Yes, that and/or motorroad=yes.
Central Park Avenue is certainly the in-between sort of road where it has some grade separations, some areas with limited access/service roads, and some traffic lights. I could see a case for the entire road (to the Yonkers city line at least) being highway=trunk. I feel like that's kind of pushing it, though it does carry about the same amount of traffic as the highway=trunk section of the Bronx River Parkway.

Outside of this bypass, I think most of the road should be highway=primary, since it carries quite a bit of traffic, but also has many properties along it. It has a similar feel to many US highways, which are usually tagged as primary roads.

Another possible idea might be to keep the bypass as highway=primary and downgrade the service roads to highway=secondary or highway=tertiary, like what happens on Grand Concourse: https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/191951871

That thought crossed my mind, though those two roads are the ones that continue to meet properties, similar to the rest of the road. It still may be the best approach though.
