Hello,
I see that you have changed the name of SR 56 from "Ted Williams Freeway" to "Torrey Pines Freeway." Please provide a source establishing that the name of the freeway has changed.
If you do not respond within 7 days, I will be forced to assume that you are not editing in good faith.
Thanks

I stand by my edits to the California 56 Freeway. As a matter or principle and practice, freeways in California are assigned PRIMARY names by GEOGRAPHIC REFERENCE based upon a city, landform or historic feature that the route passes through. This precedent was set in order to assist motorists in navigation to their destination on freeways and are intended to transcend time. Identification of freeways based upon prominent landmarks (versus route #'s) helps distinguish one freeway from another and also results in successful broadcast, delivery and interpretation of traffic reports. We all have heroes and role models, and I assume that yours was Ted Williams. But naming a freeway after person that was famous at one time, does not assist motorists and that is why FREEWAYS ARE NEVER NAMED AFTER PEOPLE. Caltrans has many types of secondary, parochial, ceremonial and historical names that are designated to a segment or milemarker for celebratory or memorial purposes. ie: Jacob Dekema Freeway, Officer John Doe Memorial Fwy, Packard Memorial Parkway, Kumeyaay Highway, Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway, Tony Gwynn Memorial Freeway. The City of San Diego took action to rename the road at the eastern terminus of California 56 Freeway to Ted Williams Pkwy. However the City does not have authority to name a state highway, and freeways in California do not carry the name of connecting roadways. Could you identify where "Officer Zeppatella Memorial Freeway" is? I rest my case.

Thank you for responding.
I will admit that I haven't seen any road signs that refer to this freeway as the Ted Williams Freeway, or any name other than "56."
However, many websites refer to the freeway as the Ted Williams Freeway. That is only a weak justification for putting the name in OpenStreetMap, but I don't understand why we should change the name to something else. Are there road signs or some other source to show that people are calling this freeway the Torrey Pines Freeway?

I found a solid source confirming that this freeway is named the Ted Williams Freeway: Assembly Concurrent Resolution 21, in resolution chapter 24 from the 1993 session of the California state assembly.
See page 1507 of this PDF: https://clerk.assembly.ca.gov/sites/clerk.assembly.ca.gov/files/archive/Statutes/1993/1993_Stats_vol4.pdf#page=1507Unless you have something official that is more recent, I will change the name back.
