Hi, I have some questions about this changeset. Why did you add a park here? https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/844694794
What are these floating bits of amenity=college? Where did you get the boundaries for them? https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/844694807 https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/844694806
What is this amenity=college? Operator? It doesn't look like a campus to me... https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/844694809
I also don't think this should be a park, especially not the administrative offices. https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/844694811
What is this park? Where did you see it? https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/844694814

The https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/844694809 parcel—according to the Albemarle County GIS (https://gisweb.albemarle.org) for the address 1085 LYMAN MANSION RD—is owned by the University of Virginia Foundation, which handles real estate acquisitions for UVA. That explains why the area was designated with amenity=college (College Grounds), but of course just because the UVA Foundation owns a property doesn't mean the property is part of the UVA grounds. This property clearly is NOT a part of the UVA grounds and the way should be deleted.

The "floating bits" of "amenity=college" came from the "Virginia property lines" overlay in Open Street Map. The "park" (since deleted) was a property that City of Charlottesville owns with no obvious structures or use. It shows clearly in the city's gis viewer in the same color as other parks.

Hi there, thanks for the response. My concerns are that you are importing parcels without verifying things beforehand.
Are you certain the data found on the Charlottesville GIS portal is public domain? While it may be hosted openly, we still need to verify we are allowed to use and import it.
Secondly, OSM should be as much of an "on the ground" map as it is of legal parcel ownership- blindly adding parcels without regard for what is actually on the ground might be a tempting shortcut, but you end up with things I and others have brought up with tagging combinations that don't make sense, weird geometry, and misleading data.
If I go to a plot of land that is labeled a park, I expect a park to be there- not a patch of forest that is technically owned by the city that they colored as "the same color as other parks" but is really just a legal distinction. And certainly not a wastewater treatment plant (like on other changesets you've done!)
