OpenStreetMap iD / OpenStreetMap ArcGIS comparison

I think I know what you mean.

The ArcGIS map you linked draws and shows data from multiple sources (Esri, HERE, Garmin, OpenStreetMap, Microsoft, Facebook, and others). And a huge cross import between all sources to OSM would be extremely challenging.

My best bet is to keep improving OSM. Cheers!

MAP

Thank you for reading, have a wonderful day! 93/93

OCD and Mapping

For building alignment and geometry, I was struggling on wheter to map the exact outlines or only a rough shape. Here you can see the 2 options side to side. I eventually decided to go with the rough building shapes, it was faster to map the whole neighbour (warning, high density city!).

OCD and Mapping

It is not ‘wrong’ to put all those address tags. Feel free to map as much detail to your heart’s content. However, not all information is useful. All map features inherit the main location they are in.

When it comes to addresses, to me, the main tags are addr:street=* and addr:housenumber=. This will help and enable routing in other services based on OSM data! Other tags like addr:country= may not be very helpful.

Many times I see a large administrative boundary area, and all map features inside it are understood to be located in that administrative boundary, be it a city, county, state, etc. If a building is within the USA, you don’t have to tag it unless you really need/want to specify it (maybe useful for embassies and consulates?).

In the ID editor, you can press Ctrl+Alt+L, and a window will show the county, city, state, country, and latitude-longitude coordinates of the mouse pointer location you’re in.

Removing private trail from map

Editing the access value is the preferred alternative, this way other mappers will not re-add the non-trail, you can also leave a note tag to further describe the situation and let other mappers know.

Why I won't contribute to Mapillary anymore

Ever heard of OpenStreetCam? I believe it’s a viable alternative to Mapillary

Help required for adding access information to gates/ gated communities

Writting on phone. To solve the afore mentioned scenarios.

Proposition 1: The multiple-value approach. Use a semicolon character “;” to separate different values. Example: The tag access=private;delivery will effectively keep the general public away but allow delivery vehicles. It’s simple to use and understand, and getting more support over time in software and parties involved.

Proposition 2: If you think a unique tag is needed then access:delivery=permissive will be good enough. In this case you would need to add both tags access=private access:delivery=permissive

Local color

Thank you I enjoyed reading. Me too, I’ll map flags from now on.

Cloudy satellite image

Hi Antoine, You can see and use multiple backgrounds within the ID editor, press the B key and select other satellite imageries available. Hope there is one cloudless, clear, accurate, and relatively recent. Good luck!

There is no exact frecuency for the updates, from experience these get updated anywhen about every 1.5 - 3 years.

If you can get an oficial answer or documents from the local authority allowing OSM to use other imageries they provide, then yes it could be included within the editors.

Tear drop fell from my eyes as i saw this in my mail. oh I missed it .

Fear not! It’s only a token so you get better as I’m sure you will make it for future events. Only Great Things Lie Ahead!

Does anyone else love this moment?

-When the map updates to show your most recent changes- Also note that rendering changes to the map does vary in speed through different zoom levels.

Best.
