Journalists making maps of Ukraine, use OpenStreetMap!

Russia is using it, at least “for the camera”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OIf-b9aX3I Compare background map with https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=7/46.932/31.816 specially in Sea of Azov borders.

Granting permission regarding Kira Maps

Hi testooools, gilery is all right (thank you). I dint’ said you don’t care, although I should have said “please, if you can” explain me better the situation here to figure out what’s happening to help you (none of us know everything about OpenStreetMap, tags, all OSM data, laws around the word… so we help each other if we can).

I really, really, really, really hate give this “bad news” to others saying you/we can’t use that source because it’s not compatible with OpenStreetMap license, even CC-BY license is not compatible (I always thought it was, but technically, it’s not, I leave that to lawyers). More info in https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Import/ODbL_Compatibility

We, me and you included, as it seems, want to help OpenStreetMap and make a better map, open to everyone, but please understand one thing: if just one of us import data illegally, sooner or later (later is really the worst scenario) that data will be removed because someone (OSM user or worst, a lawyer) found it. And if others added data above the illegal data, ALL that information will be deleted, because they added data above that illegal data. So this situation is really a disaster. The work of others will go to the “garbage”.

I hope you understand, I don’t have anything against you (why I would?), I thank you for helping adding data in OpenStreetMap. If this subject depended only by me, all data in the world would be open source, at least all governments public data.

Granting permission regarding Kira Maps

Could you explain a bit the context? It seems it’s a reply to a message requesting permission to use their satellite images. So Kira Maps gave permission to use them in a open source context except commercial? That’s not open source. We could call that CC-BY-NC at most (non-free). They gave the permission but we can’t accept it, because OSM data can be used for commercial purposes.
