Hi, please note South West Coast Path is the name of a route, which is named on the relation, of which the various paths forming the route are members. It should not be used as the name of path segments as it is not the name of the individual paths.

Hi Mike,
New to this so comments on what I'm doing wrong are welcome.
The reason I'd added the name to the paths was:
A) Because it wasn't showing up on the map and I see this as important. I've modified the section between Portloe and Porthpean as that is what I had a gpx file for. This now currently shows where the South West Coast Path is. The sections either side of this don't and I think they should.B) I was copying what had been done on the north coast.
Is there somewhere I could look at that describes the correct way of doing the naming? I'm happy to correct what I have done but if it means removing the SWCP name then I would want to ensure that there was an alternative method which caused it to show up on the actual map.

Personally, I'd use http://waymarkedtrails.org/en/?zoom=12&lat=50.26969&lon=-4.78722&hill=0# for that...

Hi, welcome to OSM. Tagging highways with the name of a route is a common mistake, and personally I think a little more in the way of guidelines should be provided to new members. One other common mistake with new members (me included) is not realising that when adding a highway, it needs to correctly join other highways, otherwise any extract to a sat nav cannot route down it.
You may find http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Walking_Routes and http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/United_Kingdom_Tagging_Guidelines useful - they describe how to tag a long distance route and give some helpful information on how to tag for the UK. Another useful tool is at http://keepright.ipax.at/ - this highlights certain types of error in the OSM data.
To see the long distance routes, you can use http://hiking.waymarkedtrails.org/ for paths and http://cycling.waymarkedtrails.org/ for cycling. There are also various other routes such as mountain biking and horse riding that you can access.
Cheers,
Mike
