Mr. Piter Biswas concluded his schooling from West Bengal State Board, India. After the schooling he has accomplished his Under Graduation course in the year 2014 from School of Planning and Architecture, Bhopal, with a focus on Urban and Rural Planning. He has some particular interest in land use planning and urban transport and his past work with Geographic Information System fits well with the Planning, Designing and Mapping Division’s work. The person has already had significant experience with land use planning and policies. The works which was done by him mainly focused on New Urbanism, Smart Growth and Local Area Planning. During his coursework in the Bachelor’s program at the School of Planning & Architecture has focused on additional work in environmental planning, site analysis, informal sector, city development plan, regional development plan and statistical methods. He also has good hands on software like Auto CAD, Arc GIS, Quantum GIS Photoshop, Coral Draw, Google Sketch Up, Erdas Imagine, Open Street Map and MS Office. The internship experience which he has got during his degree course primarily been in the public and government sector in different regions which include “Dispersal plan of East-West Metro Railway Corridor, Kolkata” was a govt. project which he has contributed his working experiences under Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA). He also has some experiences in his degree course period which includes “District Development Plan of Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala” and “City Development Plan of Samdrup Jongkhar, Bhutan”. Except these, he has also worked 6 months with Radical, Bhopal on “AIIMS Zonal Plan, Bhopal”, “Front Lake Development, Upper Lake, Bhopal” and 21 different city development plan projects as a part timer. However, he has worked also with Sumit Gothi & Associates, Bhopal on Land-use Change, Real Estate Projects and Institutional Campus Design. In his final year thesis program he worked on “A comparative study of peripheral development of municipalities within Kolkata Metropolitan Area, West Bengal”. During his graduation he wrote an article on “Slum A JNNURM Perspective”, which was published by ITPI, Bhopal, MP Chapter. In July 2014, he joined as an Assistant Planner in Sumit Gothi & Associates, Bhopal and worked till February 2015. The he started working in Urban Expansion Observatory, India. It is a research organization, jointly developed with Mahatama Education Society and in conjunction with New York University (NYU) and Stern School of Business and funded by United Nations Habitat. His designation was Image Analyst. The analysis relies on a new and sophisticated sampling methodology developed by NYU Urbanization Project. Using the high-resolution satellite imagery of Bing, Mapbox and Google Earth, with a random set of 10-hectare locales in the expansion areas of cities is generated (areas developed between 1990 and 2013). In each city, average measures for five metrics are obtained. They are i) the share of land in arterial roads and access to arterial roads, ii) the share of land in streets and the distribution of street widths, iii) the share of land in residential areas in different stages of housing sector evolution, iv) average block size and the density of street intersections and v) plot dimensions in land subdivisions. After completing the tenure, he joined with HDFC RED in a real estate projects around the cities of India. It’s a Mumbai based organization. His job is to prepare high resolution map of cities, research of different areas or cities where infrastructure developments are happening and analysis of public demand according to the upcoming projects. Currently, he is working with Studio Prismatic since May 2018. He is having a total experience of 6 years and 3 months (counting).
