SR 44 has been relinquished by the Indiana Department of Transportation to the City of Franklin, starting at the intersection of SR 44 and SR 144 (approximately 1 mile west of US 31) and continuing eastward on Jefferson Street, Forsythe Street, and King Street until reaching the southbound ramps of I-65. This section of roadway is no longer classified as State Highway. Please correct your maps. Continuing to list this section of roadway as State Highway encourages tractor-trailers to attempt to use the route between US 31 and I-65, resulting in a significant number of tickets being issued.
