First time taking pictures on route

10Mpx is waaaaaay too much for mapping. You could happily get away with a much lower resolution, which means not only more images per card, but longer battery life, and less time waiting for images to be written to memory (faster mapping).

My first OSM edit

Hi,

You should download the current data from the database before you start editing. This means if there is a way you wish to correct is already there you edit the excisting way.

If you start tracing from your GPS and then just upload it you will have two ways that are very near each other, marking the same bit of road.

When you upload no GPS data is sent. The only data that is uploaded is what you have drawn and edited by hand.

Does that help?

Frustrations with photo mapping

The units for the offset is dd/mm/yy hh:mm:ss I think.

Note taking using a voice recorder: Help required

I've used a portable mp3 player as it had a dictophone built it. It worked.... kinda.

Lauderdale by the Sea

Me again,

Just did a quick bit of tidying up the ways in Potlatch. And changed the tage from naturl=coastline to natural = water. I don't think natural = water is apt, as it seems very structured. Next guess is somekind of canal.

I suggest you join the mailing lists and ask for some opinions.

Good luck.

Lauderdale by the Sea

Hi,

Wow, that is interesting! There are two coastlines!

It seems correct as in the features are actually there. However they've been tagged in a bit of a strange way. Also looking at it the source is PGS, I don't know what that is, but it could be some kind of bodged import.

The Yahoo! Aerial photography is pretty good for the area, it's just going to require a bit of work to tidy up.

Chin up! It can be fixed!

York Bike Routes

Kaerast:

Ah! I see your point now! If sustran's is somehow linked to the local authority then the signs should be up if not report them on http://www.fixmystreet.com/ Then we can go back and re-survey them.

York Bike Routes

"presumably means I can't add the un-signposted sections of the routes to OSM"

A grey area for sure. However you are not copying the map. You are collecting raw data from the GPS trace. The data you collect is new and more thank likely very different to what their map says.

So in my opinion, don't worry, add all the data from the GPS trace of the route.

Tracing the 2m Gaza aerial imagery

Hey,

How can I help?? I'd love to do some tracing!!

wrong roads

Hi,

Not sure how good your GPS is but mine if I walk under a tree the accuracy plummets. Even having it in the top of a bag could make a difference.

I mount mine to the handle bars of my bike with gaffa tape, and that means I can keep an eye on it. So if accuracy starts to drop, I slow down and wait to re-acquire a better signal.

Good Luck.
