I want to add the tracks created by students moving around the lake at Macquarie University while participating in our Local Ecostudy Project. Students will be using iphones to collect field data, uploading this data into LAMS and tracking their moves with Mappo embedded into the LAMS sequence. very cool!

You should have added a location to your post so people can see your work.

Are the legal issues cleared? There is not only a huge privacy problem but the students also need to agree with the license used for tracks here at OSM.

I can see HannesHH's point regarding the students agreeing with the licence. But what possible privacy concerns could there be? It is not as if they are uploading traces of their own houses. Firstly, surely it is likely that all of these traces will be uploaded from a single OSM account, not identifying individuals, and secondly individuals who do upload tracks personally can upload them as private tracks. Please explain.

I wouldn't think students would have to agree, if the data was genuinely anonymous. If you can't see any paths that could identify an individual (i.e. a path going where only one of the people on the sample would go, like their home), it's not personally identifiable information. At least that's the law as I understand it here in the UK, and I'd imagine fairly similar elsewhere.
